The Ultimate Wedding Destinations on the Amalfi Coast

The great wonders of Italy and its incredible coastline are referenced throughout history, literature and the arts. Its landscape, architecture, food and wine are amongst the most celebrated across the world. Let me take you on a journey along the Amalfi Coast to some of the most exquisite wedding destinations with whom we collaborate.

Beginning our Amalfi journey from the southwest, the picturesque town of Sorrento sits on the coastline overlooking the bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The majestic Villa Astor has justifiably been labelled “Paradise” and has hosted distinguished film stars and royalty throughout the years. Behind the elegant soft apricot façade, the sophisticated interior exudes with historical and classic accents, and is filled to the brim with exquisite antiques throughout its six superior suites. The opulent décor and furnishings are examples of extravagance at its finest and this extends to the grounds where ornamental ponds and a pool nestled within a natural grotto are just some of the cinematic spots for those treasured moments. The panoramic terrace is the dream location for any ceremony or celebratory dinner.

Departing Sorrento, we follow the coastline to the famous cliffside village of Positano where Villa San Giacomo stands boldly at the highest point gazing directly out the sea. Looking down upon the centre of the village and the islands of Li Galli, this luxurious villa was once the observation point for wealthy merchants awaiting their ships. Straight out of a fairytale, the sun-bleached pale pink walls enclose a sumptuous suites and artistic frescoes and following a complete renovation in 2013, you can also enjoy the comfort of contemporary touches such as air conditioning and wifi which are not always available in historical properties such as this.

Further eastwards along the coast we reach the Anantara Convento Di Amari Grand Hotel, a luxury hotel that serves as a stunning example of the renovation of a former 13th century convent built into the hillside. The suites and rooms, refurbished as recently as 2023,  look directly out to sea. In contrast to the elaborate décor of other venues, this stunning hotel has kept the interior décor simple, adopting cool neutral tones and creating an air of relaxed minimalist chic. Exchange vows in the private chapel before heading out onto the terrace for a sunset toast with breathtaking views as far as the eye can see.

As we arrive in the historic town of Ravello, it is unsurprising that this small area, with its medieval appearance, is home to a number of our favourite wedding venues. Famous for its strong artistic and literary connections stretching back over 120 years, Ravello’s astonishing location is perched on the slopes of the Lattari Mountains. Villa Eva sits in the historic centre, its roof being the highest point of Ravello offering 360 degree views of the coast. A magnificent white villa in late liberty style (an Italian version of Art Nouvaeu), it is immersed by a expansive woodland park offering an abundance of outdoor space for ceremonies and dining.

Nearby, we return to classic splendour as we explore Villa Cimbrone with its frescoed ceilings and stone fireplaces dating back to the late 1800’s. The vibrant colours and décor in each of the uniquely styled suites respectfully honor the original design elements and original architecture. The beautiful gardens, candle lit balconies and sea view terraces provide an exquisite backdrop for any ceremony.

For a fusion of historic architecture and contemporary touches head to neighbouring Palazzo Avino located near the Ravello Town Hall and within walking distance of the Duomo. This former 12th century private villa opened as a hotel in 1997 and now features one-star Michelin dining along with spa and the Beach Clubhouse (15 mins drive away by complimentary shuttle). Its multi-level sun terraces and spacious outdoor dining areas are an ideal spot to enjoy a glass or two as the sun fades into the sea below.

Ravello’s Belmond Hotel Caruso describes itself as ‘the gateway to the glamour of Amalfi’. It delivers a five star service as well as fine dining on its panoramic terrace, not to mention its own private beach if the heated inifinity pool is not to your liking. Explore the arched stone vaults and roam the rose-scented gardens before pausing on the hidden terrace overlooking the harbour.

Before leaving Ravello, let us introduce you to La Rondinaia (The Swallow’s Nest). Immersed in the beauty of its own private park it is built into the cliff face, hence its name. Almost suspended between sky and sea, admire the beauty of its gardens with views down the coast from the village of Minori to the point of Capo d’Orso. The six elegant suites make it ideal as an exclusive use destination for small weddings.

Heading further along the coast towards the province of Salerno we arrive at Giardini Del Fuenti, a cliffside location comprising of 4 event spaces arranged over expansive terraces. Included are a 9 tiered area with up to 400 seats and swimming pool, a private beach club area, a smaller ceremonial terrace and a dining terrace surrounded by native lemon trees. This versatile destination can be styled to complement any type of ceremony and celebration.

At the most easterly point of our Amalfi odyssey we find Hotel Santa Caterina, a jewel in the crown of the town of Amalfi. What a place to complete our tour! In addition to embracing the original Mediterranean design with its painted majolica floors and marble bathrooms, this elegant hotel has tastefully added contemporary touches such as twentieth century furniture and light airy décor. On the sunkissed veranda, you and your guests can savour the gastronomic offerings reflecting seasonal Mediterranean produce guaranteed to satisfy the most discerning palates.

As you can see, the Amalfi Coast is a gift that just keeps giving in terms of wedding destinations.
